Distracted by Crafting

So… the past few weeks I have gotten way distracted by crafting instead of doing house/cleaning projects. Gwen also started preschool and dance. We also had some family visiting. With all of the craziness in our personal lives going on and the discovery that I have allergies I apologize for the lack of a post last week. But this one will encompass both weeks!

Capes!

I excitedly did manage to finish the blue wool cape as well as start crocheting a pink capelet for Gwen. The wool cape has arm slits so I can use my arms with out needing to open the cape. The buttons were salvaged from the various jars and tins of buttons that I now own. They are actually pretty cool leather shank buttons. I can’t wait to wear it out and about.

I am beyond excited for the capelet for Gwen as it is using a new style of crochet that uses a long hook. It is called Tunisian or afghan crochet and it is a mix between crochet and knitting.

Spinning Wheel

I found myself going down the rabbit hole of learning about spinning and how to spin and what is needed. As well as the various pieces and parts of spinning wheels. I learned that I am missing the bobbin, whorl, top piece of the distaff, and leather bearings for the antique spinning wheel that belongs to the house. It turns out that the wheel is a double drive Saxony style wheel that is used for flax and wool. And I am DYING to get it restored so I can use it. I have been corresponding with a lovely woman who works for BobbinBoy to get the missing parts. I also roped a good friend of mine into 3-D printing me a drop spindle so I can practice before the other parts can be made. I am awaiting its arrival as well. I also found a cool sticker on the bottom of it. Grammy said it was purchased at auction for Emily, Florence, or Adeline. So who knows what the sticker was about or if it possibly corresponded to the person who was selling it.

Portico

I for a small portion of a day attempted to clean/organize the portico area so we could potentially use it. I mostly just ended up cleaning up some of the shells that the girls had spread all over the room. So not much progress there maybe eventually. I kind of decided that we need to open up some space so we can deal with some of the excess furniture here to have room to comfortably sit.

Tea!

I also made tea and cake for our company and thus had to do a test before they arrived. Also to enjoy the now much cleaner dining room (all of which was unpacking our stuff from Ohio). So here is mt test tea.
