Garage Sale and Attic Finds

I am terribly sorry that it has been so long since I have posted! My family visited and then I was feeling a bit under the weather. But there is so much to tell because it has been so long! My mom and sister-in-law helped with getting some of the piles of random stuff cleaned up. Once we got the main rooms settled my mom started bringing things down from the attic for us to go through. Then we started getting things set up for a garage sale to get rid of some of the stuff.

Garage Sale

The garage sale was a success we didn’t get rid of as much stuff as we wanted to but we did get rid of a lot! Here are the before photos of the garage sale.

Most of the furniture was still left at the end as well as most of the glassware. After the garage sale ended, three days after it started. We decided to just contact an auction house for the rest of the items as there was still SO MUCH stuff. So we separated things into piles; things to try to just give away, things to just trash, and things to go to auction. The things for auction are currently living in half of the two car garage and the detached garage. The free stuff piles at the beginning of the few days they were out are below and the photo of what was left.

And then we were left with just the trash all over. So here are photos of that and the satisfaction that they were all picked up by the junk company shortly after the photos were taken.

Attic Finds

Now onto the really fun stuff! Here are a few of the treasures that we found in the attic! The first of which is nothing really special but it is darn cute! A valentine’s card with a little girl and a spinning wheel!

Spinning Valentine’s Day Card

There were several looms which made me really excited. I was so happy to have found some looms to experiment with and learn to use. We found a couple of pin looms one was a hexagon and the other was a square. There was a tapestry loom in a little learn to weave kit. And finally was a little Structo Artcraft Loom which I think was originally sold as a toy for children.

Another discovery that made my day was the treadle sewing machine that we uncovered in the attic. It is a New Home treadle machine from 1919 according to the serial number date. Which lines up well with the time period the house was built in and has probably only ever lived in this house. It is now on my list of projects for the house because I would love to try sewing with it some day. It even has the manual still with it and the box of attachments for it as well.

We found what seem to be quite old apron patterns as well which was pretty cool.

And last but not least we found some old essentially tabloid magazines from I think around the 1930’s and were quite confused by the advertising. There were ads for how to gain weight and ads for how to loose weight right next to each other and in the same magazine. Which has been quite an interesting thought journey that I have been periodically coming back to whenever I see this photo. Especially because both beauty standards and advertising have both changed so much since then. So this has been on my mind on and off frequently lately.

Confusing Ads

I am still not back to feeling 100% so updates may be a bit irregular but we will see. I am going to try to maybe do some of the family things we found in the next post but that may also change. I have a few other projects I am also on so the next post will remain a mystery I guess.

Thank you so much for reading and joining our journey,

Lots of Love,

The McMullins
